Carl D. Herbein

Carl
D. Herbein is the President and Founder of Herbein Consulting, Inc.,
which is considered one of the nation’s leading advisory and
consulting firms to Dairy Product Companies. Mr. Herbein has over
35 years of experience as an accounting and consulting professional.
He is the Partner-in-charge of services for all dairy clients currently
serviced by Herbein Consulting. Mr. Herbein is also the Founder,
President and CEO of Herbein + Company, Inc. Founded in 1974, Herbein
+ Company is a Reading, PA based professional services firm which
provides accounting, auditing, tax preparation and consulting services
to businesses and individuals throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
Since 1975, Mr. Herbein has developed
significant and specialized expertise in providing growth advisory,
performance monitoring, and merger & acquisition services to
family-owned, dairy products companies. Mr. Herbein has performed
the feasibility and accounting work for numerous successful dairy
mergers and currently leads the firm’s engagements in industry
consolidation, including due diligence, valuation, and consolidation
benefit analysis as it relates to the dairy industry. Throughout
his career, he has personally visited and provided services to more
than 150 dairy food companies throughout the United States.
Mr. Herbein has also performed
other special projects for dairies including: product cost analysis,
route accounting and profitability analysis, by-product and excess
butterfat cost analysis, buy-sell arrangements, labor contract negotiations,
hauling cost analysis, plant shrink studies, delivery cost studies,
market price analysis, cost benchmarking projects, business valuations,
Federal Trade Commission analysis, and dairy financial reporting
design.
Mr. Herbein has spent more than
13,000 hours in personally preparing for and testifying at over
120 Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board price hearings between 1976
and 2007. He has presented accounting and financial related topics
at numerous Pennsylvania Association of Milk Dealers conventions,
All Star Dairy national conventions, Quality Chekd Dairies national
conventions, Master Dairies national conventions, New York State
Dairy Foods, Inc. annual meetings, and International Association
of Milk Control Agencies annual meetings. Additionally, he performed
dairy cost accounting litigation support engagements for the state
of New Jersey, Department of Agriculture, and performed dairy cost
accounting engagements for the state of Colorado.
Mr. Herbein is a well-known speaker
and has published numerous articles on various topics related to
the Dairy Industry. He also developed and presents the annual "Dairy
Cost Accounting Workshop" for the International Dairy Foods
Association.
Mr. Herbein holds a Bachelor of
Science in Accounting from Elizabethtown College. He is a licensed
CPA in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Member, American Institute
of CPAs, and served on the Council from 1990 until 1991; Member,
Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs and served as President from 1988
until 1989; Firm Member of PKF North American Network and served
on the Board of Directors from 1993 until 1994; and past Chairman
of the Reading Redevelopment Authority from 1992 to 1998 and served
on the Board of Directors from 1984 until 1998.
Mr. Herbein is a also a Board
Member of the Greater Berks Development Fund, Berks County Convention
Center Authority, Berks County Chamber of Commerce, Berks Economic
Partnership, Elizabethtown College, and the Berkshire Country Club.
Mr. Herbein resides in Reading, PA and was awarded the 2006 Eugene
L. Shirk Community Builder Award.
